1. Fellowship
We believe that fellowship is essential to the spiritual health of every believer.
"Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up."
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Small Groups and Home Fellowships are for the purpose of encouraging mutual edification of the body through the centrality of Christ; that we might build one another up in love, (Ephesians 4:15-16).
2. Missions
We seek to cultivate a mission's awareness here at Calvary Worship Center, by providing short and long-term mission opportunities for members of our fellowship. We believe that missions should encompass Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world. Therefore, missions for us includes, not only outreach to other countries, but also outreach within our community.
"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen."
Matthew 28:18-20.
3. Worship
Worship is the outward experience of our relationship with the Lord. A ministry of worship is essential to the churches passion for God. We believe that a strong, vibrant worship ministry is essential to the level of intimacy we will experience, in our relationship with the Lord, as well as with one another. Worship, at Calvary Worship Center is a "life style," not just something we do before the message on Sunday.
4. Discipleship
The teaching of God's Word, whether in the children's ministry, small group setting, or Sunday morning services, is our spiritual bread and butter. Everything we do is centered on the Word of God. Jesus said, in Matthew 28:19- 20, "Go into the world and make disciples of all nations," How do we make disciples? We "teach them," according to the "Word" of God. Therefore, the ministry of discipleship is helping people appropriate the word of God in their lives that they might be "transformed" into the likeness of Jesus, rather than being conformed to the world. (Romans 12:1-2).
"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12
"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth."
John 17:17
5. Evangelism
Healthy sheep beget healthy sheep. Evangelism should be a "natural" outgrowth of a healthy church. Evangelism is essential to the life of the church. Everyone loves to be around newborn babies. New born babes in Christ invigorate the church; because it is evidence of the fact that God is working among us.
"Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved."
Acts 2:44-47
Compassion, unity, and praise, these are characteristics of the early church. In such an atmosphere, "church growth" is no longer a "goal," but the natural by product of God's presence; "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved."
We believe that failure to evangelize is a sure sign of apathy in the church. As the apostle Paul said in (1 Corinthians 9:22), we should seek to save people by "all means." At the same time true evangelism has to rise above the mere implementation of a "program," because "evangelism" is about loving people for whom Christ died.
"Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!"
John 4:35
6. Prayer
Nothing of everlasting significance can be accomplished within the church apart from prayer. Request for prayer is common in the Epistles: I Thessalonians 5:25; II Thessalonians 3:1; Romans 15:30; Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:3.
We must take seriously the admonition in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing." We pray without ceasing because God is always moving. Prayer is a compass to the heart, that we might be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
E.M. Bounds once said: "What the Church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use--men of prayer, men mighty in prayer."
We must pray, lest we be guilty of offering to God "strange fire," as did Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu, (Leviticus 10:1-2). Let us sincerely desire that fire which the angel took from the altar of God in Isaiah 6:6-8;
"And He touched my tongue with it, and said: 'Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.' Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: 'Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?' Then I said, 'Here am I! Send me.'"
7. Word of God
"He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."
John 14:21
God's word is essential to the health, growth, equipping, and effectiveness of the church. The neglect of God's word, by the church, is an act of "rebellion" in the eyes of God. (Isaiah 30:1) "Woe to the rebellious children," says the Lord, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin."
John H. Armstrong in his book: "The Coming Evangelical Crisis" writes:
"Today's evangelicalism treats experience as final authority. Have you been born again? Have you been led by God? Has God spoken to your heart? Did you feel good about the worship service? Does the music move you personally? Are your kids excited about the programs? Rarely do we examine matters of religious faith and practice by the Scripture-alone principle. But a miracle, a changed life, a profound testimony – none of these establish the authoritative basis of saving faith. If we do not soon recover the proven truth of "sola Scriptura", the crisis we face may be seismic in proportions."
The Word of God is the very "breath" and "life" of the church. The "authority" of His word is founded upon the fact that it is "living" and able to give "life" to that which was dead. God breathed life into the lungs of Adam and he became a "living soul". In the same way the word of God gives life to man's lost and lifeless condition apart from God. Jesus said:
"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life."
John 6:63
Apart from the word of God the church will become lifeless, salt without taste, (Matthew 5:13). God's word is our foundation, and pillar, for the church.
